If you follow my twitter—or Facebook—it’s not news what I wore to judge the 6th annual Independent Handbag Designer Awards; I had to utilize some major style editing skills to help narrow down more than 1,000+ handbags, from the crazy to the strange submissions, and everything in between. Plus, I got to exercise my on camera skills with a live video, shot by Dan over at Useful Media.
Sure, I got to utilize some major style editing skills to narrow down more than 1,000 handbags, but what really made the event memorable was the amazing group of style experts, editors, writers, and “social media wizards” as Emily Blumenthal would say, who came out to jury the competition: the every lovely Amy DuFault of EcoSalon, the chicest man in the room and star of our very own “Something Old, Something New,” Mr. Colin T. McDonald, a new friend lifestyle correspondent Pamela Pekerman, the talented Budget Fashionista Kathryn Finney, and Lois Sakany & Samia Grand Pierre, Micah Jesse, Dawn Del Russo, Sara Zucker, Ysolt Usigan, Amina Akhtar, Sarah Reynolds, and Georgia Bobley.
Thanks to Red Branch PR who made everything run smooth like butter and the Hyatt 48 Lex for putting us up in a chic location and last, and last but—mos def—not least, thanks to Emily for her passion and drive, and for championing independent designers and giving them a platform to launch their careers with this annual awards, her book, a and FIT workshop.
And finally, here are the deets on my outfit:
I’m wearing silk trousers by Ralph Lauren that I found at Beacon’s Closet, a second-hand shop in Park Slope, Brooklyn; a vintage green jacket from my college years that I found at Recycle North, a vintage shop in Burlington, VT; a black cashmere tank top that I borrowed from a friend, which I still need to return…; black “suede” platform pumps from Payless ($25—for realz); and “new” costume jewelry from a flea market in Brooklyn, statement earrings and a green and diamond pin, both for $10!
