This past week I braved the snowstorm to go out and support my friend and mentor Olivia Zaleski’s father’s foundation, The Dream Project, for their benefit at Museo del Barrio in New York.

It was inspiring to hear about how Olivia’s father started laying the groundwork for the project more than twenty years ago, when he bought a house down in the Dominic Republic. Today, the foundation supports the education of more than 3,000 children a year at a surprisingly low cost. Read more at the Dream Project website, here.

I’m wearing some of my favorite pieces: green and lavender earrings (flea market find), a green velvet purse (vintage), and a Banana Republic LBD that I purchased at Housing Works, obviously.

If the sound of vintage Dolce & Gabbana and Prada, is a tune you like to sing, then you’ll want to hear about this vintage fashion sale, starting tomorrow at What Goes Around Comes Around.

Now usually I avoid curated vintage fashion boutiques since they are overpriced—and I end up paying for someone else to do the busy work—but when it comes to What Goes Around Comes Around’s vintage clothing sale, they’re promising prices as low as $5.

Music to my ears.

It starts today, and runs through March 7th, at their Astor Place location in New York City (440 Lafayette St, at Astor Place).

Ch-Ch-Check It Out.

This weekend, a sustainable style shoot—with a personal twist—is taking to the streets; called Local Wisdom, it is a “project intended to change the way the public thinks about, buys and wears fashion,” presented by Parsons The New School for Design and the Center for Sustainable Fashion at the London College of Fashion. Read more, via a press release, below.

Local Wisdom will invite members of the public to bring important pieces from their wardrobe to the Parsons campus for a community photo shoot, where the organizers will gather unique and moving stories about how people use and care for their clothing—unearthing the stories behind the clothes and the people that live in the global fashion capital that is New York City.

I love this project because it champions the story behind the style and it’s so closely aligned with PFF’s style series: Something Old, Something New.

Don’t live in New York? Not to worry, the project is coming to a city near year—that is if you will be in Vancouver, Melbourne, or London through 2014.

If you want to take part this Saturday, January 26, show up between 10 am – 4 pm at the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center, Parsons The New School for Design, located at 2 West 13th Street in New York.

Reformation opened their flagship boutique in SoHo during New York Fashion this week and I popped by to check out their collection of upcycled vintage clothing. Creative director Yael Aflalo creates one-of-a-kind garments using surplus materials. I especially loved an army jacket that had unexpected details like a fur collar and bright woven shoulder patches. The store also features carefully curated vintage accessories like classic Salvatore Ferragamo heels.

Presentation is key: the flagship has an open layout with bright energy-saving lights and also incorporates natural elements like birchwood.

I also popped into the photobooth for a little incognito fun. I snagged this green leather vintage bag at a flea market ($26) and I am letting it have the limelight—for now, at least.

Visit Reformation at 23 Howard Street in New York City.

Calling all filmmakers: last week, I attended the launch of ‘Four Stories’ with Roman Coppola at W hotel in downtown New York. The party kicked off a screenplay competition, wherein anyone can submit a story idea that incorporates Intel’s new Ultrabook laptop and W hotels (ahem—product placement). One winner will get global exposure and the chance to work alongside Coppola, who will write and direct the final short film.

For details, visit Four Stories and enter before August 30th.

Wednesday night, I braved the bizarre weather in NYC and trekked to Riverpark Farm at the Alexandria Center all in the name of sunglasses. New functional-yet-fashionable Zeal Optics hosted a to-die-for dinner, which was sourced from the farm next door, to launch their Spring 2013 line.

I’m wearing the “Darby” sunnies from the line and I can’t wait ‘till they come out—though, full disclosure, they’re gifting me with a pair when they do. Until then, keep tuned for my review.

I’m also donning Amour Vert’s Carmel Riviera peace silk dress, Naya’s Wind Sandals, and a Coach bag.

TODAY & TOMORROW: Shop Local Indie Fashion Designers in an Awesome Pop-Up Shop in SoHo this Weekend.

What started out with a small cry from Afia designer Meghan Sebold, who exclaimed, “let’s do a pop-up!” in designer Carrie Parry’s living room has launched into a fun-filled weekend of major fashion sales—and DJ sets, too. It’s called “Bring It To The People”, and it’s a pop-up shop backed by local fashion talent, from Gretchen Jones and Study NY to Samantha Pleet, Titania Inglis, and more.

Skip, jump, bike, or hop on over to the 4th floor of the Soho Lofts (52 Mercer St) today from 11am -7pm and tomorrow, Sunday, June 24, from 12pm to 5pm.

Need more reasons why you should go? The designers tell me why over in my exclusive feature for Discovery’s TreeHugger.com: Indie Eco-Fashion Designers Pop Up in NYC this Weekend

On Thursday, Pratt Institute hosted their Annual Student Runway Show and cocktail benefit—don’t miss my school girl-inspired style at Pratt’s runway show last year. I had to miss the show this year, but I made the after party at PH-D at Dream Downtown.

A highlight was Kelsy Parkhouse’s sophisticated looks, which “had a very nice sense of balance and execution,” according to The New York Times. She won the inaugural Liz Claiborne Concept to Product Award, a prize worth $25,000.

Coincidentally, I donned a white wool Liz Claiborne suit jacket and vest that I found at a thrift store in Pennsylvania for under $20; I paired it with Diesel jeans, also thrifted, and some other pieces that may look familiar, like gold vintage earrings and a classic Coach bag.

Photo: Emma Grady at Pratt’s Annual Cocktail Party at Dream Downtown. (Thanks to Pratt’s Leonardo Gomez II for taking the snap).

Big thanks to CrOp by David Peck and Autumn PR.

On Thursday, Pratt Institute hosted their Annual Student Runway Show and cocktail benefit—don’t miss my school girl-inspired style at Pratt’s runway show last year. I had to miss the show this year, but I made the after party at PH-D at Dream Downtown.A highlight was Kelsy Parkhouse’s sophisticated looks, which “had a very nice sense of balance and execution,” according to The New York Times.
